Frankfurt walking map
This map, published by Frankfurt's tourism office, marks nine essential sights in the city centre and the two tourist information offices, which makes it a good base for a self-guided walk through the Old Town and across the Main.
A loop from the Hauptbahnhof via the Alte Oper, Hauptwache, Römerberg and the cathedral, then over the Eiserner Steg footbridge to the Museum Embankment and Old Sachsenhausen, covers the highlights in about 5 to 6 km. Allow half a day with stops, more if you visit a museum.
The tourist information office on the Römerberg also offers guided walking tours in several languages, including tours of the New Old Town. Wear comfortable shoes: some lanes in the Altstadt and Sachsenhausen are cobbled.

A good route starts at the Hauptbahnhof (tourist information), goes along Kaiserstraße to the banking district and the Alte Oper, then via the Hauptwache and the Paulskirche to the Römer and the cathedral. From there, cross the Eiserner Steg to the Museum Embankment and end in Old Sachsenhausen for an apple wine.
